Life Drawing
Syllabus
 
Catalogue Description:
Figure Drawing in varied media (prerequisite: Art 101 Drawing or consent of instructor required) six hours per week.
 
Purpose/Course Objective:
Figure Drawing is a course which teaches basic anatomy of the human figure as well as drawing technique. We will cover use of different drawing media, skills of rendering correct proportion and foreshortening, composition and visual elements, and will execute both gesture drawings and long poses. We will conduct class critiques.
 
Grading procedures:
Drawings will be collected and graded before mid-term and at the end of the term. Progress will be noted in final portfolio. Two quizzes will count 20% and portfolio will be weighed at 80%. Homework will count for 30% of portfolio grade
 
Class Attendance Policy:
You have three free absences only. After these you will be penalized three points out of 100 for each additional day you miss. Lateness will be noted and will also count against your grade. Once the model session has begun, you will have to wait until the first break to enter the classroom.
 
Media
We will use a range of different drawing media including some of the following: charcoal, conte crayon, graphite pencil and turpentine, colored pencil and ink and brush.
 
Foundation Show:
You will be required to mat two drawings to enter into the Foundation Show at the end of the semester. If you have Cathy cut your mats it will cost about $15.00 per mat or $30.00 total.
